After being translated in many Middle West countries, “Le Rêve de mes Mots” is the first book to present Seyed Ali Salehi's work in French language. It is structured in two parts, which, far from willing to oppose them, tend to set a light on Salehi’s work’s specificities.

The first part renders in its entirety his most popular work, “The Letters”. This collection of poems is a series of confessions and introspections based on letters addressed to the mysterious and silent Rira, lost love, mystical woman or maybe image of the poet himself. Following this series of lyrically touching poems, “Le Rêve de mes Mots”, in its second part, offers selected poems showing the diversity of Salehi’s styles and themes.
Le Rêve de mes Mots (French translation - Antoine Phelippeau)

Seyed Ali Salehi occupies a significant place in today’s Iranian poetry world, as well for the public as for the other poets and critics. In the early traumatic postwar period of the eighties, his poetry and his idealism, through his language, clear and understandable to everyone, quickly became very popular. Those poems recorded on audiocassette with the voice of famous actors also contributed to this success by spreading his words among all the classes of society.
However, the real artistic revolution that Seyed Ali Salehi initiated was “Speech Poetry” (Shehr - e - Goftar), which aimed at tightening the relationship between the poet and his readers through a more direct language, without denying the rich heritage of Persian classical poetry. Salehi is an idealist and the characters of his poetry most often are the left-behinds, the broken-hearted ordinary men and women of the streets. And thus for a good reason, because Salehi’s life itself is in many ways similar to the one of his contemporaries. Born in the Khuzestan province and leaving very young to reach the capital, he does not forget any step of his life in his creation from the Khuzestan mountains to the pavements of Tehran.

Following this series of lyrically touching poems, “Le Rêve de mes Mots”, in its second part, offers selected poems showing the diversity of Salehi’s styles and themes. Here we reach the poet’s social awareness and his will to be the voice of those who do not have one. Probably less mystical and symbolic than “The Letters” these poems release a real might, and even sometimes anger serving his messages. This selection also reveals profound meditation on the role of poet, towards his readers and the society he lives in. But above all, love is what constitutes Seyed Ali Salehi’s work and is ubiquitous through all of his poems.

For “Le Rêve de mes Mots”, Seyed Ali Salehi did us the honor of composing a poem, until then unpublished, with the reproduction of the manuscript included in this book.

Through his work, his humanism and his vision, Seyed Ali Salehi’s poetry is an outstanding testimony on today’s Iranian art.
